Cowboy Cactus 5”

$31.90

The Cowboy Cactus is an ideal plant for any home. It has a low-maintenance growth habit and its spine adds a unique touch of texture and character to any interior space. It's easy to care for and will bring a delightful hint of the outdoors inside.

In the growing season, the plants should be watered at least once a week. When watering, the soil should be given a good soaking, allowing excess water to drain away. Allow the compost to dry out slightly between each watering.

Trim out dead and damaged leaves any time, pinching off or cutting off each of those leaves at its base. Avoid cutting into a plant's main stems or its crown, which is where its leaves and roots meet.

Liquid fertilizers are applied more frequently, bi-weekly or monthly, for example. Granular products are used less frequently, perhaps once every month or two. Slow-release houseplant fertilizers break down slowly and release their nutrients in small amounts, over a longer period of time. A single application of most of these products lasts for three to four months.

Cacti and succulents thrive with good light sources, and it is best to place cacti and succulents in a bright place. A south facing position will provide good sunlight. However, be careful to not put them in direct sunlight because the intense light can make the plants turn a yellow colour.

Needs rich, well-draining soil.

It is important to make sure the plant remains consistently warm, enjoying temperatures ranging from 74° – 82° degrees Fahrenheit.Keep in mind that this species does not do well in winter. It can survive temperatures as low as 28° degrees Fahrenheit.

Plant Care Tips

Will you pot my plant for me?

Yes! If you are purchasing a plant and pot at the same time, we are happy to pot the plant for you for no additional charge.

How often should I water my plants?

It depends on the type of plant and its environment. Most indoor plants prefer to dry out a bit between waterings, while others like moisture.

A general rule is to water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feels dry. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it's better to under-water slightly than over-water.

How much sunlight do my plants need?

Different plants have varying light needs. Some thrive in direct sunlight, while others prefer bright, indirect light. Check the specific requirements for your plant, but in general, place sun-loving plants near south-facing windows and shade-tolerant plants in lower light areas or further from windows.

When and how should I fertilize my plants?

Fertilize during the growing season (spring and summer) every 4-6 weeks using a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer.

Reduce or stop fertilizing in the fall and winter when most plants are dormant.

Always follow the instructions on the fertilizer package to avoid over-fertilizing, which can damage plants.

How can I prevent pests from damaging my plants?

Keep plants healthy by providing the right water, light, and air circulation. Check for pests like aphids, spider mites, and mealybugs regularly.

If you spot them, wipe them off with a damp cloth or treat the plant with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Isolating new plants for a couple of weeks can also prevent pest spread.
